About Stellar Futures

Canadian roots. A coastal perspective.

We are a maritime intelligence company on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, developing tools to make harbours, boats and workers safer.

Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia

The waterfront isn’t a backdrop.
It’s why we’re here.

Working harbours are essential infrastructure for fisheries, coastal livelihoods and local economies. From our home in Blue Rocks, we understand the importance of connecting practical information with the people responsible for them.

Stellar Futures is developing tools to help working harbours understand their assets, anticipate operational risks and make better maintenance, safety and investment decisions.

Our mission is simple: make harbours, boats and workers safer.

Gary Stairs, Founder and CEO of Stellar Futures

Gary’s career began in emergency management — thirteen years with the Government of New Brunswick, with responsibilities that included preparedness for nuclear and conventional incidents and work connected to the development of the province’s 911 system. An early experience with the 1973 Fredericton flood left him with a conviction that has guided him ever since: the value of reliable information rises sharply when risk does.

That conviction carried into a career spent turning complex information into usable knowledge — graduate studies at Simon Fraser University, work with Daimler, Mercedes-Benz and United Nations organizations, and a leadership role at LearnStream in the late 1990s, where the team tripled employment while revenue grew from roughly $2.5 million to $12.5 million. His contribution to Canada’s technology sector was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and in 2025 Stellar Futures won the AWS Canada PREDICTif national pitch competition.

Today Gary leads Stellar’s vision from Blue Rocks: safer, more resilient and investment-ready working harbours, with a practical focus — anticipate risks before those risks become losses, and demonstrate value for the people working on the waterfront. He was recently profiled in CEO Bulletin Media’s The Visionary Leader Driving Innovation and Growth in 2026.
